The
Support Services Office maintains personnel, human resources,
budgets, payroll, accounting and finance, grants management,
purchasing, property, facilities maintenance and information
technology divisions within MEMA.
The
agency's general support budget is comprised of approximately
54 percent state funding and 45 percent federal funding. The
only federal grant that supports all-hazards preparedness
efforts is the Emergency Management Performance Grant. In
Fiscal Year 2007, MEMA will receive approximately $2.3 million
of EMPG funding. Of those funds, 63 percent, or more than
$1.4 million, will be passed through to local county emergency
management programs.
MEMA
awards grants to counties based on a population allocation
plus a stipend of $5,000 if the county has a part-time emergency management program
or $10,000 for a full-time program. This grant allows several
rural counties the ability to support personnel and resources
necessary to have an emergency management program.
The
Support Services Office not only manages the EMPG money, but
also state general fund money, any permit money received from
the Waste Isolation Pilot Program, and funding received from
Entergy, Inc., as MEMA helps support the company's emergency
plans for the Grand Gulf Nuclear Facility in Port Gibson.
