PEARL – Gov. Phil Bryant is urging residents to stay off of roads and highways in areas affected by winter weather. Travel is extremely dangerous. Temperatures are not expected to be above freezing until Thursday morning.
The Mississippi Highway Patrol and local emergency service officials are reporting dozens of accidents from vehicles sliding off of roadways.
“The conditions on roadways are deteriorating quickly,” said Gov. Bryant. “The safest thing to do is stay off the roads if possible. Unnecessary driving during this winter weather can be dangerous for motorists as well as the first responders who are out assisting drivers.”
The Mississippi Department of Transportation is reporting icing on roads and bridges throughout the state, especially in central and southern Mississippi. MDOT is working around the clock to treat the roads and bridges for travelers. MHP is assisting local law enforcement with accidents and traffic control.
