LATHAM NAMED NEMA RESPONSE & RECOVERY COMMITTEE CHAIRMAN

PEARL – Mississippi Emergency Management Agency Director Robert Latham has been appointed to serve as the chairman of the National Emergency Management Association’s Response and Recovery committee for the next 12 months. Latham is also a member on the Legislative committee.

During the next year, Latham will work with members of the response and recovery committee to ensure that needs are met around the country following disasters.

“My appointment as chairman of the response and recovery committee affords me a unique opportunity to tackle the complex response and recovery issues that plague communities and states following a disaster,” Latham said. “While these issues will be addressed at the national level, I will always remember that it is our communities that ultimately suffer or benefit from these programs and policies.”

Latham has directed response and recovery efforts for 13 presidential major disaster declarations, two emergency declarations and numerous non-declared disasters in Mississippi, which makes Latham a highly respected veteran among emergency managers.

Newly elected NEMA President and Georgia Emergency Management Agency Director Charley English nominated Latham for the position.

“On a personal level, I am grateful to Robert for helping mentor me as a new director many years ago. Professionally, he is held in the highest esteem by his peers across the country. His vast experience and respect in emergency management make him a perfect choice to head this committee,” said English.
