MEMA Mass Notification System Message Sent by Mistake

PEARL – The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency mistakenly sent an “Active Shooter” message at 8:33 a.m. Tuesday morning.  A “Disregard” follow up notification was sent at 8:39 a.m.

MEMA is installing a new, state-of-the-art, mass notification system called AtHoc. MEMA personnel are training on the new system and the message was sent by accident.

“I apologize for any confusion this message caused and we are working even closer with our staff to ensure this won’t happen again,” said MEMA Director Lee Smithson.
