Mississippi Agencies Continue Response Efforts for Tropical Depression Isaac

Jackson, MS—Tropical Depression Isaac continues to impact Mississippi bringing heavy rain and strong winds throughout many parts the state. While the storm has been downgraded it still poses a threat of flooding rains and tornadoes. Emergency operations continue for Mississippians affected by the storm with the following updates:

Shelters: 30 shelters in the state are open with 1,838 evacuees housed.

Pike County Dam: Emergency crews from the Dept. of Environmental Quality, Wildlife Fisheries and Parks, Miss. Dept. of Transportation, Miss. Highway Patrol, Miss. National Guard, MEMA and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers are monitoring a dam slide on Lake Tangipahoa in Pike County. The dam has not been breached and a controlled release is planned.

Power Outages: As of 8 p.m., more than 88,857 customers were without power, including 4,000 Mississippi Power customers, 38,250 Entergy customers and 46,607 Electric Power Associations of Mississippi customers.
