PEARL – The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency is urging residents stay aware of dangerous weather conditions that could occur from now through Monday morning.
Most of the state of Mississippi is under a MODERATE to ENHANCED risk for severe weather. Those risks include heavy rainfall, localized flooding, large hail, damaging winds, and/or strong tornadoes.
“We are closely monitoring the situation and have been in communication with our partners at the local National Weather Service Offices”, said MEMA Executive Director Lee Smithson. “We are asking all residents to stay aware of this evolving weather pattern. And if severe weather threatens your area, have a plan in place so you will know what to do, get out of mobile homes and get to a safe place.”
It is critical for everyone to have a way to get weather warnings. Some of the most effective are:
- A NOAA Weather Radio.
- Mobile phone alerts.
- Social media, Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat.
- Local radio/TV broadcasts.
