PEARL – The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency, FEMA, Small Business Administration and local officials are conducting Joint Preliminary Damage Assessments in both Jones and Marion counties from the Dec. 23 tornadoes. The assessments should be completed Tuesday. The results will be used to determine what federal assistance may be available to assist in the recovery.
MEMA was notified of a fifth confirmed storm death. A Jones County man died Sunday at a hospital in Alabama from injuries he sustained while in his vehicle during the tornado.
A helpline for storm survivors has been set up to request assistance from volunteer organizations. The number is 1-866-916-8436 and open 24-hours.
