PEARL – Mississippi Emergency Management Agency Director Robert Latham has returned the State Emergency Operations Center to normal operations after the National Hurricane Center cancelled Tropical Storm Karen’s threat to Mississippi. Karen is now a tropical depression, is expected to become a remnant low this afternoon and will stay off-shore of the Mississippi Coast. The National Weather Service in Slidell forecasts the possibility of one to three inches of rain and localized coastal flooding today.
“We were very fortunate that Karen was unable to intensify thanks to very dry air and high wind shear in the Gulf of Mexico,” said Latham. “I appreciate all our counties and state agencies for being prepared to respond. We are also pleased the “Cruisin’ the Coast” events will be able to go on as planned.”
The emergency operations centers in Hancock, Harrison and Jackson counties have all returned to normal operations as well.
