West Hobolochitto Creek Near McNeill at Major Flood Stage



MCNEILL, Miss. – The West Hobolochitto Creek near McNeill, which is in Pearl River County, has reached major flood stage.

The creek’s level Sunday morning is 22.42 feet and is expected to rise to 24 feet by this afternoon. It has risen 16.38 feet since Thursday.

According to the Advanced Hydrologic Prediction Service, widespread flooding will occur in Westchester Subdivision near Picayune. Also, many homes, businesses, and other buildings will be flooded and evacuations will be necessary. Sections of MS Highway 43 can also expect to be impacted.

The Pearl River County Office of Emergency Operations says this event has similar potential to the August 2012 flooding.
