Governor Extends COVID-19 School Closures Until April 17

PEARL, Miss. – Governor Tate Reeves signed an executive order on Thursday, March 19, 2020 to close all Mississippi public schools through April 17, 2020 due to the coronavirus outbreak.

The governor stated that he believes the extended closures will give the state more time to evaluate further impacts of COVID-19. Governor Reeves explained this is not a decision he takes lightly, but believes it is in the best interest of all Mississippians.

Throughout the closures, teachers will be paid their salary in a timely manner and the state will develop ways to ensure that students continue to learn during this time.

Additionally, the Governor made the decision to relax end of year testing requirements and accountability measures.
