PEARL, Miss. – In April, MEMA requested Public and Individual Assistance for additional counties following the April 12, 2020 severe weather and tornadoes. As of now, Jones, Covington and Jefferson Davis Counties are the only counties that have been approved by FEMA to receive both Public and Individual Assistance.
However, MEMA has requested Clarke, Carroll, Grenada, Jasper, Lawrence, Panola and Walthall Counties be approved for Federal Individual Assistance. MEMA has also requested Bolivar, Coahoma, Sunflower, Quitman, Tallahatchie, Panola, Tate, Lafayette, Yalobusha, Grenada, Carroll, Holmes, Montgomery, Calhoun, Webster, Chickasaw, Clay, Choctaw, Noxubee, Leake, Smith, Jasper, Clarke, Lawrence and Walthall Counties be approved to receive Federal Public Assistance.
Although MEMA has requested 25 counties for Public Assistance and 7 counties for Individual Assistance, FEMA ultimately determines which counties meet the threshold to receive federal assistance based off of the completed joint damage assessments. Joint Preliminary Damage Assessments for Public Assistance are expected to be complete by Friday, April 7, 2020.
