Gravel Pit Recovery Update from Copiah County

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE                                                                           June 6, 2016

 Crystal Springs, Miss – Copiah County Emergency Management and the Mississippi Emergency Management agencies have been notified that Green Brothers Gravel Company has started pumping water out of the pit where two miners became trapped on Friday. The federal Mine Safety and Health Administration is overseeing the operation.  An industrial crane, which had been brought in on Saturday, was unable to recover the two miners and the equipment where the men are believed to be trapped.

Green Brothers and MSHA have been in charge of the recovery operation since it occurred close to 11:30 a.m. June 3.

Copiah County, MEMA and other state resources are providing support to the operation as requested.
