MEMA Requests Joint Preliminary Damage Assessments from FEMA Following Ida

PEARL, Miss. – The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency has requested Joint Preliminary Damage Assessments from FEMA for Individual Assistance following Hurricane Ida. This request includes eight counties.

The counties included in the request are Amite, Hancock, Harrison, Jackson, Pearl River, Pike, Walthall, and Wilkinson.

If the request for Joint Preliminary Damage Assessments is approved, FEMA will then begin the process of validating the initial damage numbers gathered by the counties and MEMA.

As of today, initial damage assessments by the counties and MEMA indicate that a total of 447 homes were impacted by Hurricane Ida. Of that total, 8 homes were ‘destroyed’ and 47 homes had ‘major damage. These are initial numbers and could change throughout the remainder of the damage assessment process.

Additional counties could be added to this request at a later date.
