PEARL –The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency deployed another Floodplain Specialist to South Carolina this week to support the historic flood disaster recovery.  Alex Finch began a three-week mission Monday morning to assist with damage assessments, flood insurance and other floodplain issues.  This brings the total to nine MEMA personnel provided through Emergency Management Assistance Compact requests by the state of South Carolina.

Finch joins MEMA Individual Assistance Specialist Angela Grant, who is coordinating all the Disaster Recovery Centers in South Carolina for survivor assistance and Volunteer Assistance Liaison Meredith Lee, who is coordinating volunteer efforts and donations.

MEMA’s Mitigation Office Director Jana Henderson, Public Information Officer Brett Carr, Logistics Chief Don Wilson, Operations Officer Zac Houston, Floodplain Bureau Director Stacey Ricks, and Floodplain Specialist Brent Miller have completed their missions and returned to Mississippi.

The Emergency Management Assistance Compact is an agreement signed by all 50 states and the U.S. Territories and allows for state-to-state support during disasters. The expenses for all the deployments will be reimbursed to the state by South Carolina.

MEMA is identifying additional resources that may be needed and is prepared to send more support if it is requested.
