Panola County’s “Son” Hudson added to Emergency Management Memorial

PEARL – The late William “Son” Hudson was honored this morning as the second member on the Mississippi Civil Defense/Emergency Management Association’s Memorial Wall of Remembrance. Hudson spent 14 years as the Panola County Emergency Management Director from 1994-2008. Hudson was killed while on duty in a vehicle accident in Batesville back in September 2008 at the age of 65.

“I can say without a shadow of a doubt that the people of Panola County are more prepared and better protected from disasters today because of Mr. Hudson’s work,” said current Panola County Emergency Management Director Daniel Cole.

Hudson also served Panola County as E-911 Coordinator, Fire Coordinator and Homeland Security Director. Hudson was also retired member of the Mississippi National Guard where he earned the rank of Sergeant First Class.

“I would probably not be where I am today if it were not for Son Hudson,” said MEMA Director Robert Latham. “He was a great friend who loved his family more than anything else and worked tirelessly to protect his community.”
The ceremony took place at the MEMA State Emergency Operations Center in Pearl, where the memorial stands in the lobby.
