Preliminary Damage Update #1 for April 9-10 Severe Weather Event



PEARL, Miss. –  The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency continues to respond to the severe weather event that impacted the state from April 9-10, 2021. Statewide, the severe storms brought with it damaging winds, hail and reported tornadoes. Survey and damage assessments continue. This morning, the state experienced around 40,000 power outages. At this time, MEMA has not been notified of any storm-related injuries or fatalities.

The following counties have submitted preliminary damage reports to the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency:

  • Attala – 10 homes; Three businesses
  • Chickasaw – 14 homes; One business
  • Hinds – One home
  • Issaquena – One home
  • Rankin – One home
  • Warren – Three homes
  • Yazoo  – One home

*These are preliminary numbers and could change throughout the assessment process.
