Tropical Storm Olga and October 25-27 Storm Damage Reports

Damages associated with Tropical Storm Olga and this weekend’s severe weather event have been reported to the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency.

Statewide Power Outages

  • Approximately 16,000 statewide (As of Oct. 27 at 11:15 AM)

Deaths/Injuries

  • One storm-related death (MS Department of Transportation Employee in Newton County)
  • Two storm-related injuries (Covington and Lee Counties)

Initial Damage Reports – 17 Counties reporting damage

  • Alcorn – County Emergency Management office assessing damages
  • Chickasaw – Eight homes damaged
  • Covington – Two homes damaged;
  • Jefferson Davis – 30 roads closed
  • Kemper – One business damaged
  • Leake – Three homes damaged
  • Lee – Trees down
  • Marion – Five homes damaged; 10 roads closed, trees down
  • Newton – Fives homes damaged; Eight roads closed, trees down, two farm buildings damaged
  • Neshoba – 10 homes damaged; one farm building damaged
  • Oktibbeha – Several trees down; two homes with minor damage
  • Pontotoc – 13 homes damaged
  • Prentiss – 10 homes damaged
  • Simpson – Eight homes damaged; one business damaged
  • Smith – Eight homes damaged;
  • Tippah – 17 homes damaged; 20 roads closed, trees down, one business damaged
  • Union – Four homes damaged, 20 roads closed

Shelter Openings

  • One shelter opened in Alcorn County – Corinth, MS (Operated by American Red Cross and Alcorn County)

Deployed State Resources/Assets

  • MS Forestry Commission deployed to Smith County – Assisting with Tree Cutting/Tree Debris Removal
  • MS Department of Public Safety deployed to Alcorn County – Assisted with Traffic Control due to power outages and debris issues
  • Bottled Water and Tarps – Deployed to Alcorn, Jefferson Davis, Simpson and Tippah Counties
