March 31st-April 1st Severe Weather Update #1



Pearl, Miss.– The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency is working with counties to assess damage from the severe weather on March 31st -April 1st, 2023. Unfortunately, one fatality and four other injuries were reported in Pontotoc County. Statewide there are reports of homes damaged, trees down, and power outages due to high winds.

 

Initial damage assessments are underway. The following is PRELIMINARY and will change through the assessment process. These counties have reported damage.

 

  • DeSoto-20 homes
  • Lee County- 4 homes, one church, and two businesses

Pontotoc, Tishomingo, and Lee Counties also report damage across the counties. More information will be available following damage assessments.

 

MEMA encourages residents with any damage to do the following:

  • File an insurance claim.
  • Take photos of the damage.
  • Report damage to county/MEMA via the self-report tool.

 

Through the remainder of Spring’s severe weather season, MEMA encourages residents to know their safe place and have multiple ways to receive alerts.
