March 14-15, 2025, Severe Weather Update #3

PEARL, Miss. (MEMA) – The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency continues to work with all counties impacted by the severe weather on March 14 and 15, 2025.  MEMA teams are in the field validating damage numbers as counties work to continue damage assessments. MEMA has received reports of 831 homes, 37 businesses, and 20 farms damaged statewide. Of the 831 homes damaged, 131 were destroyed and 166 received major damage. These preliminary numbers are expected to fluctuate as validations and assessments continue. Power restoration continues with only 581 outages reported statewide as of 8:30 AM Wednesday. The National Weather Service has confirmed 18 tornadoes touched down on March 14th and 15th in Mississippi; storm surveys are ongoing.

MEMA’s Business Emergency Operations Center is working with private companies to help with the recovery process. Chick-fil-A local operators fed 200 meals yesterday at the Tylertown Baptist Church.  Local operators are feeding approximately 100 meals a day and will continue feeding in Tylertown for the rest of the week. The Mississippi Board of Contractors is actively working in counties that were affected to ensure they are receiving information on the importance of hiring licensed contractors and to ensure that survivors are not victims of scams. Taylor Power is working with customers in the affected area to repair damaged generators.

Nonprofits, community organizations, and faith-based organizations have come from far and wide and are assisting storm survivors. The American Red Cross provided more than 550 meals in Leflore County and Walthall County. They also continue to distribute emergency supplies in the affected counties. Southern Baptist Disaster Relief continues with chainsaw teams throughout the state. Pinelake Church is working with a Convoy of Hope and Carson Baptist Church in the affected area to assess damages and assist with debris cleanup. These are just a few of the organizations helping Mississippi.

MEMA welcomes all volunteers who want to help; however, we encourage individuals to avoid self-deploying. Instead, please join a verified organization or nonprofit that assists during disasters before heading to the affected area. Currently, three donation drop-off locations are open: one in Walthall County, one in Grenada County, and one in Smith County.

You can find the locations, contact information, item pick-up locations, and current needs on the MEMA website here.
