Mississippi Blood Services Experiencing Blood Shortage



PEARL, Miss. – As the Coronavirus outbreak continues, Mississippi Blood Services has been forced to cancel numerous blood drives resulting in a severe blood shortage.

MEMA and the Mississippi State Department of Health encourage those that are able to donate visit any of the donation locations listed below to give blood. All blood types are needed at this time.

Donating blood is considered an essential task under a “Shelter in Place” order. The need for blood is a crucial element in many aspects of healthcare, from treating chronic and catastrophic illnesses to trauma patients, to helping surgery patients and premature infants. Donating blood is safe and Mississippi Blood Services is taking every precaution recommended by the FDA and CDC to keep donors and staff as safe as possible.
