PEARL, Miss. — Mississippi residents who suffered storm damage during the winter weather event of January 23–27 are being urged to document their damage.
Residents can self-report damage through the self-report tool at MSEMA.org, which helps the state document the extent of damage and the number of people impacted by the storm.
Tragically, additional deaths have been reported, bringing the statewide total to 28.
Counties continue to conduct damage assessments as FEMA, state, and local agencies carry out storm response efforts. MEMA has received reports from 51 counties indicating that 438 homes, 30 businesses, and 23 farms have been damaged, destroyed, or otherwise affected statewide. Additionally, 20 public roads have sustained major damage, while 63 have sustained minor damage. These numbers are expected to fluctuate as assessments continue.
Power restoration efforts are ongoing. Approximately 27,500 outages remain, down from a peak of about 180,000.
Meanwhile, warming centers remain open to support residents without heat, and private donations are supplementing state and federal disaster relief efforts as recovery transitions from emergency response to long-term rebuilding.
A total of 49 warming centers are open in 51 counties, serving approximately 511 people. Residents without heat are encouraged to continue utilizing these warming centers and shelters.
