Clayton Southerland was appointed as the Audit Supervisor in March of 2025 for the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency. Before coming to MEMA, Clayton spent 8.5 years at the State Auditor’s Office, where he began as a Field Auditor, and eventually became an Audit Manager.

The Office of Audit is responsible for preparing, coordinating, and responding to all external audits required of the agency. The Office is also in charge of the agency’s monitoring policies and programs, for all sub-recipients of both federal and state funds in which MEMA acts as a distributor.

Clayton graduated from Mississippi College in May 2016 with a degree in accounting. In 2018, Clayton earned his CPA license from the Mississippi Board of Public Accountancy.

Clayton believes in transparency, accountability, and oversight when it comes to State government. Clayton currently lives in Brandon with his wife Rachel, two step-sons, Bishop and Caden, and three dogs, Maggie, Shug, and his best buddy Moose the bloodhound.
