State, County and City Orders Due to COVID-19



UPDATE: Governor Tate Reeves issued a new, statewide ‘Safer-At-Home Order, which will be in effect from 8:00 AM, Monday, April 27, 2020 until 8:00 AM, Monday, May 11, 2020. This new executive order still encourages Mississippians to stay home unless for essential reasons.

Governor Tate Reeves issued a Shelter-In-Place order, April 1, 2020 because of COVID-19. Local governments across the state have also issued stay-at-home or social distancing orders.

(This is a working list and as municipalities submit paperwork to MEMA, this page will be updated)

Statewide Executive Shelter In Place Order:

  • Individuals are to stay at home except for the limited allowances in the executive order.
  • When outside of their homes, people must follow social distancing guidelines by maintaining a 6-foot distance from others and avoid groups of 10 or more.
  • Evictions are suspended, though people are still required to pay any rent or make any mortgage payments.
  • All nonessential businesses are to stop all activities other than those necessary for minimum operations (e.g. payroll, health insurance, security) and enabling employees to work from home.
  • Social and other non-essential gatherings in groups of more than 10 people must be cancelled or rescheduled.
  • Restaurants and bars may only remain open for drive-thru, curbside, and/or delivery service.
  • People may leave their homes only to perform essential activities, such as caring for someone in the vulnerable population, getting food or necessary supplies, and working for an essential business.
  • Individual outdoor recreation is encouraged, but not group recreation or activities such as soccer or basketball games.

Yazoo City

  • Effective April 1, 2020, curfew from 9 p.m.  to 5 a.m. in the city of Yazoo
  • Limits social and non-essential gathering no more than five (5) individuals

City of Madison

  • Effective April 2, 2020 at Noon until further notice
  • Restaurants may only provide take-out, delivery or drive-thru services. Inside and outside dining areas must close
  • All businesses not specifically defined by Governor Tate Reeves’ Executive Order 1463 as ‘Essential Businesses’ must close
  • The Community Center, playgrounds, city parks and athletic fields will remain closed

City of Ruleville

  • Declaration of local emergency
  • No gatherings of more than 10 people

City of Flowood

  • Effective April 1, 2020 until April 30, 2020
  • All personal care businesses (barber shops, spas, nail salons etc.) and gyms must close
  • All recreation facilities (parks, bowling alleys, movie theaters etc.) must close
  • Restaurants may only provide take-out, delivery or drive-thru services. Inside and outside dining areas must close

City of Hattiesburg: Executive Order 2020-2 & Executive Order 2020-3

  • Effective until April 30, 2020
  • All entertainment venues, gyms and public areas in malls (food courts) must close
  • No gatherings of more than 10 people at any event
  • Restaurants may only provide take-out, delivery or drive-thru services
  • Grocery stores, pharmacies, convenience stores and hardware stores should limit to number of customers in the store at one time.
    • These stores should also provide at least six feet of space between customers near checkout lines and discourage customers from clustering in sales areas

Smith County Curfew

  • Effective March 31, 2020 at 5:00 p.m. and continue for 30 days
  • County-wide curfew from 11:00 p.m. until 5:00 a.m.
  • No gatherings of more than 10 people at an event for the next 20 days
  • Take-out, pick-up or drive-thru services for food is allowed

Town of Merigold

  • Effective 3:00 PM March 25, 2020 until further notice
  • All municipal buildings and facilities, including Town Hall. are closed to the general public
  • Restaurants may only provide take-out, drive-thru or delivery services

City of Tupelo 

  • Effective until April 17, 2020
  • Restaurants must suspend dine-in services unless able to reduce capacity to allow no more than 10 people in dining area. Take-out and delivery options are encouraged.
  • No one is permitted to visit hospitals, nursing homes or long-term care facilities unless providing critical assistance
  • Employees should work from home if possible
  • Gatherings of any kind of 10 or more people are not permitted
  • Remain at home unless for essential reasons

City of Oxford

  • Effective for 15 days from March 22, 2020
  • Non-Essential businesses must be closed to the public
  • All religious gatherings, wedding and funerals should be limited to no more than 10 people

City of Columbus

  • Effective at 5:00 PM March 21, 2020 until further notice
  • Restaurants can only serve food using drive-thru, curbside (only) pick-up and delivery methods. Interior common dining areas must be closed to the public.
  • Non-Essential businesses must be closed to the public
  • Religious gatherings should be limited to no more than 10 people
  • A city-wide curfew will be in effect from 10:00 PM until 6:00 AM except for essential travel by those over the age of 18

Lowndes County

  • Effective at 5:00 PM March 24, 2020 until further notice
  • All non-essential businesses must be closed to the public
  • Restaurants can only serve food using drive-thru, curbside (only) pick-up and delivery methods. Interior common dining areas must be closed to the public.
  • Religious gatherings should be limited to no more than 10 people
  • A county-wide curfew will be in effect from 10:00 PM until 6:00 AM except for essential travel by those over the age of 18

City of Moss Point

  • Effective at 12:00 PM March 20,2020 until April 19, 2020
  • Non-Essential businesses must be closed to the public
  • Restaurants can provide drive-thru and carryout orders, but only 5 people are allowed inside at a time to pick up to-go orders
  • Citizens are mandated to stay home unless necessary to leave

City of Cleveland

  • Effective March 24, 2020 until further notice
  • Restaurants my only provide take-out, delivery or drive-thru services. Public dining areas must be closed to the public
  • All bars, event centers, parks, recreational facilities must closed to gatherings of more than 10 people
  • City of Cleveland Additional Closures

Wayne County

  • Effective 30 days from March 23, 2020
  • Restaurants and bars must close dine-in services, but may provide pick-up and curbside service.
  • There may not be more than 10 employees inside restaurants at one time
  • Non-essential businesses and places of worship must adhere to the guidelines of the CDC and limit gatherings to no more than 10 people.
  • A county-wide curfew will be strictly enforced from 9:00 PM until 5:00 AM

Town of Boyle 

  • Effective 10:00 AM March 25, 2020 until further notice
  • Restaurants my only provide take-out, delivery or drive-thru services. Public dining areas must be closed to the public
  • Parks and recreational facilities will be closed to gatherings of more than 10 people

City of Aberdeen

  • Effective at midnight March, 23, 2020 until 11:59 PM March 30, 2020
  • Restaurants must close dine-in services, but may provide pick-up and curbside service.
  • Churches and other places of worship must limit persons inside their churches to less than 10 people at a time.
  • Non-essential businesses should limit the number of people inside their establishments to less than 10 people.
  • Ask for public’s cooperation to stay home except when necessary to be out

City of Shaw

  •  No gatherings of 10 or more people at a time.

Town of Renova

  • Curfew in effect from 10:00 PM – 5:00 AM
