North Mississippi Power Outage Update, Feb. 7, 2023

PEARL, Miss. (MEMA)- The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency is reporting a 90% power restoration in communities in North Mississippi affected by the winter storm power outage. MEMA urges those who still do not have electricity to report it by calling the MEMA Call Center. This information will be used to map outages and be given to utility crews working in the area. The number is 1-833-591-6362. The call center is open daily from 7 am- 7 pm.

MEMA is aware of the potential severe weather forecasted for Wednesday, February 8, 2023, and the effect it may have on restoration efforts. MEMA’s State Coordinating Officer, Todd DeMuth says, “With the possibility of severe weather we do anticipate some restoration progress will be lost, but power crews will be back in service as soon as it is safe to do so.”

Those who have spoiled food from the extended outage can also call the call center to find out what resources may be available. If you are a SNAP recipient you can request a replacement of SNAP benefits, by reporting the disaster to your local MDHS office within ten (10) days of the date of the disaster. If you are not a SNAP recipient check with your insurance company about possible reimbursement.

All debris left from the storm should be placed on the side of the road for pickup. Place debris where it is not blocking the roadway.

Donations can be dropped off at the Holly Springs Multi-Purpose Building.

Ten utility crews from around the district have been working diligently to restore power to the affected area and we hope to see continued restoration this week.
